- Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that new Meta smart glasses are heading for us “later this year”
- He mentioned several “launches”
- And he has piled up that “certain new technological capacities” also arrive
The report on the results of the first quarter of Meta is live, and during a call with investors discussing the results, CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that we obtain new smart glasses later this year – and they could be better than anything we have seen before.
According to Meta, his intelligent Ray-Ban glasses are a success. In the past year, sales have tripled and his glasses have four times more monthly users than a year ago.
Anxious to capitalize on this success, Zuckerberg told investors that “we have new exciting launches with our partner Essilorluxottica later this year also which should extend this category and add new technological capacities to the glasses.”
There are two things to note in this comment: the use of plural “launches” and the promise of “new technological capacities”. Because, although Zuckerberg did not develop these comments during the call, the leaks already seem to have spoiled the surprises of Meta’s smart glasses later this year.
Starting with these new capacities, it is almost certainly a nod to the Ray-Ban intelligent glasses very flight with a screen.
To inform you, these new rays of rays would be almost functionally identical to what preceded (with a camera, speakers and a Meta IA functionality), but they will also incorporate a single screen for the goal.
Unfortunately, they are also expensive – we are talking more or about $ 1,000 / £ 1,000 / $ 1,100 in the perspective.
Despite this, the upgrade has the potential to be enormous, because it could bring important RA features to Meta’s specifications because it pushes towards more complete AR glasses with the general public version of its Meta Orion Arion glasses.
As for the other launches, we expect Meta to also reveal a pair of specifications focused on athletes based on Oakley Sphaera glasses. Oakley, like Ray-Ban, is a brand belonging to Essilorluxottica.
These would not incorporate a screen, and the camera would be apparently moved on the side of the glasses in the center, but it was not confirmed. I hope they would incorporate specific features into athletes such as racing or bicycle assistance via their Meta AI integration.
Beyond the Oakley glasses and specifications equipped with the display, I have the feeling that Meta could have another pair or two in her sleeves, on the basis of the disclosed comments of the CTO of the company that Meta “pushes our advantage by launching half a dozen laptops powered by the AI”.
They could include long-term meta-camérasbuds, which would add cameras to more typical headphones, or to a meta-scartwatch (which long-standing readers will be canceled / impregnated every few months) in order to control your glasses.
But I have the feeling that we could also obtain standard specific rays specifications – especially if those who have a display are as expensive as what has been supposed.
These intelligent glasses would offer exactly the same feature as the existing model, but with a combination of better cameras, better audio and better battery life for the same cost.
Based on the success of Meta’s intelligent glasses and the fact that her glasses are approaching two years, a refreshment would have meaning – although it is only an intuition (and I admit that my predictions of reality are not always stellar).
As for what we will see these glasses, the “later this year” remark from Zuckerberg guarantees a launch in October. This is the month in which Meta has published a new reality material in recent years after announcing technology during its Meta Connect event, which generally takes place at the end of September.
This year’s connection will take place on September 17 and 18, so it will not take long before we saw these new intelligent specifications in action – and I already count on the days.
