- The meta quest 4 would have been delayed until 2027
- A high -end meta helmet (Puffin) should now come next year instead
- There is no update on the Asus or Lenovo Horizon OS helmets
A new leak suggests that Meta’s Quest 4 helmet has been pushed back next year at 2027 – although when it happens, it could be worth waiting, because it could be a very different device from quest 3.
Fortunately, we can, apparently, always impatient of a Meta Quest Pro 2 launch – so the new VR equipment always seems to be incoming.
These leaks come from two sources: Brad Lynch and Luna, who both have solid track recordings with regard to VR leaks. Lynch published a Jokey survey saying that one of the Valve Deckard and Meta Quest 4 would land this year, while Luna heard rumors that the quest 4 was delayed until 2027.
According to the leaks, this is due to the cancellation of two meta-protypes which were probably candidates of the quest 4: Pisto Low and Pisto High (budgetary and premium models to correspond to the Quest 3S and Quest 3 outings.
Instead, we could get a helmet based on the Uffice prototype that Meta has developed.
Puffin should be a higher -end offer – something that looks like a Meta Quest Pro 2, although the way the leaks are talking about the aircraft, it seems that it can launch under a different name and not question.
This is because it is ready to have a very different design from what we are used to, that is to say a pair of VR glasses attached to a washer, a bit like the Apple Vision Pro. I say “in a way” because the puffin washer would not only be a battery but its brain of treatment too, to further remove the weight of the helmet and in the user’s pocket.
It should always execute Horizon OS, but the goal of the apparatus would be more for productivity and static entertainment (for example, watching VR films) rather than what we are generally expecting from Meta VR helmets.
Apart from Meta, we are still waiting to see what the Horizon OS – Asus, Lenovo and Xbox – partners are developing. In the same way as several apparatus manufacturers are defined to use Android XR, this trio works on helmets running the Meta Quest operating system.
We have not yet heard of Lenovo’s apparatus, although the Asus of Asus Tarius helmet is part of its ROG range, which suggests that it will be a helmet focused on games with improved screens and features such as eye monitoring to make a more premium offer than existing quest models.
Hopefully these helmets will be launched soon, and the start in 2026 could be on the cards – and if Meta does not launch a quest 4 next year, it could be a great listening moment for Lenovo and Asus to present their devices.
