- Meta revealed that the ideal VR game session is 20 to 40 minutes
- Less than that and VR does not feel valid
- Longer and material problems can have a negative impact
Meta has published new research that he has conducted in the perfect length of VR games, and on the basis of my experience to test his meta quest 3, Meta Quest 3S and his older helmets, the results of the True Study Ring.
This advice may not mean that we see changes in the types of applications that we obtain in RV, but also to adjust Meta’s equipment itself. Its published results indicate design problems that many have with existing equipment, problems suggesting leaks from the next version of the Meta helmet have been resolved for its next device.
More information below, but let’s start with Meta’s search, and why 20-40 minutes is apparently the ideal length for a VR game session.
As Meta succinctly explains in a short graph (above), the “Golidilocks session length” is around 20 to 40 minutes on the basis of his research.
If a VR session is 20 minutes shorter, we can feel dissatisfied. Although many mobile games can get away with a shorter loop of 5 to 10 minutes (or even less), the VR requires more efforts to enter (clean the space, put on the helmet, etc.), which requires a more interesting experience.
VR can always offer these shorter curls – as Saber Offer levels that are only a long song – but they must be chained significantly. For example, you can play several Saber Missions as part of a training session, or as a warm -up for your VR game session. For multiplayer games, if a match usually lasts 10 minutes, a satisfactory experience could be that your daily quests are something that you generally perform in two games.
After 40 minutes, the experience begins to have a decrease in yields while people start to feel the friction of physical constraints – like their level of fitness for a more active game, social isolation in solo mode, the lifespan of the limited battery or (for newcomers) transport evil.
This is why Meta says he found that the games between this length are right (that is to say in the Goldilocks area) for most VR players.
Now, if you are not a VR application developer, this will be directly useful for your software, but for non-developmenters, there are certain things that we can withdraw from Meta’s conclusions.
To start, it provides additional proof for the advice I always give to new VR arrivals: simply start with a helmet and get accessories later.
Now, if they are released in a package, that’s one thing, but if you are looking to spend a significant sum on an internship with an integrated battery on the first day, you probably want to think again.
Yes, there are many people who grow through this 40 -minute barrier and that I love it, and therefore having a bigger battery is useful – I always think of my time playing Batman: Arkham Shadow As long as my battery allowed it and being so frustrated to wait until it recharges – there are a lot of people for whom only 20 to 40 minutes are perfect.
As I always say, try your helmet for a few weeks and see if you need a larger battery or that you would benefit from any other accessory before buying them. With fast delivery, you don’t wait long before you get them anyway if you decide that they are for you.
This research could also indicate the next design of the META VR headset because it works to remove some of the material barriers of the VR.
There are several rumors according to which his next helmet, the name of a naphée coded, and now Phoenix in leaks, will be ultra-thin glasses. His rival, Pico, designs something similar (you can see the Pico 4 Ultra above).
Most of the treatment and battery power supply would be moved to a washer, a bit like Apple’s pro vision, but with even more piled up in the pocket pack, so that the weight on a person’s head is only a little more than 100 g.
Since a meta quest 3 weighs 515 g, it would be a serious change and could transform the Horizon OS helmet into something that people can (and want) wear for hours rather than less than an hour.
In addition, with the battery in a person’s pocket, Meta could make it even greater than before without affecting comfort. Although, as with all speculation, we will have to wait and see what Meta then announces, it may be nothing like a helmet and a smartwatch instead.
