- Meta’s smart glasses receive v23 update
- It will bring new snow sports statistics to users with a Garmin watch
- Other upgrades improve conversation and translation capabilities
Meta’s smart glasses are currently receiving their v23 update, and the bumper upgrade would have been perfect at the Winter Olympics – it’s a shame it came a little too late. Superb translation and conversation improvements are also on the way.
The most notable upgrade is the integration of a new snow sports. As a Meta article explains, using a Garmin device, your glasses will be able to tell you about your current ski or snowboard excursion, such as the distance covered, the maximum speed of your last run, the steepness of the slope and your personal bests.
As with ongoing integration, you can also create shareable autocaptures that automatically overlay interesting data from key moments onto the clips your smart specs capture.

As with the Meta Glasses’ other fitness features, you’ll need to pair your specs with a compatible Garmin watch – so if you’re relying on another brand of smart bracelet or don’t own one at all, you’re out of luck. You’ll also want to have your phone in your pocket with the Meta AI app installed and make sure it’s paired with your watch and specs.
With all this ready, the next time you hit the slopes, all you have to do is start a snow sport activity on your Garmin device, and it will start capturing all the data you need and creating a neat automatic capture. Just note that colder weather will drain your glasses’ battery faster than expected.
New translation tools are also coming to Glasses, if you’re in the Early Access program. These are Hindi, Arabic, Russian, Swedish and Finnish, with Meta promising more to come.
Meta’s translation is arguably the least impressive AI feature of its glasses compared to its competitors – not because of any inaccuracies, but because the language selection is much less broad compared to the other specs.
This update should help alleviate these ongoing issues somewhat; I just wish this happened to everyone and not just a select few.
Finally, there is the promise of more conversational Meta AI. Once you engage “Hey Meta”, you won’t need to keep saying the wake word to keep the conversation flowing – but for now, that’s only if you live in the US or Canada.
Overall, this update is more minor – especially since the larger upgrade requires you to own a Garmin device on top of your smart glasses – but hopefully Meta’s renewed focus on AR/AI will mean we’ll see bigger improvements in the future.
