- Zeekr and MG presented new models at the Shanghai Motor Show
- MG Cyber X brings the pop-up headlights
- The 9x of Zeekr is shooting for Bentley and Rolls-Royce with an opulent style
MG and Zeekr joined a plethora of Chinese brands by presenting new exciting models at the Shanghai motor show this year.
Sitting at the most affordable end of the spectrum, MG unveiled the second in its avant-garde “cyber” theme series, which includes the revolutionary two-seater sports car.
Although a large part of the current MG world range is elegant but a little sober, the Cyber X is a complete design display case, offering square proportions, a presence on the road and cool pop-up headlights that are retracted when the ignition is extinct.
Sporting a stealthy black paint work, it is the work of the old VW and the designer of Bugatti Veyron Jozef Kaban, who joined MG at the beginning of last year to bring design spices to the brand.
Addressing Autocar, he said that Cyber X’s goal was to show how diversified the company is.
Just at the corner of MG stand, Zeekr presented its first hybrid models in the Gargantuan 9X – a car which, according to the company
But unlike Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which costs a lot of $ 400,000 (or £ 300,000 / 625,000 in), the 9X should start at around $ 70,000 (around £ 53,000 / $ 110,000 in) and offer a lot in terms of intentions the plush and technology.
There is a 43 -inch cinema screen on the back, allowing passengers to bow in a plush environment, while Zeekr says that this will be the first model to wear its autonomous driving technology at Pilot G.
According to The Marque, its vast camera, sensor and Lidar suite is good for the real level 3 autonomy – allowing drivers to remove the hands from the steering wheel and road eyes where the legal fact.
China refines its luxury tastes
Recent reports have suggested that the demand for high-end Western brands is cooling in China, because the domestic market turns more on its own start-ups for the most recent and most innovative electric vehicle technology.
Sales of Porsche and Ferrari vehicles have dropped in recent years, while even the luxury watch markets, wines and spirits have experienced a global decrease in sales figures, according to Finews.
This could be due to several factors, but Jing Daily, which covers the luxury market of China, says that there has been a general societal change in signs of wealth, while young buyers expect a much higher level of digital engagement in their products.
This is the reason why Audi has launched its own brand in China only in the Audi and Mercedes-Benz, Confus and Mercedes-Benz, presents its concept of VMMP futuristic vision at Shanghai Motor Show this year-not only China produces some of the most advanced models on the planet, but it also exclusively draws some of the newest and most innovative models of Western brands.
But Zeekr and MG sell well beyond their internal markets, the pair quickly finding an audience in Europe and beyond. Although it is unlikely that the rest of the world can see the Mammoth 9x on the roads so early, the MG CYBER X is very likely to approve a world production variant.
Cyberster has done an excellent job to establish the brand as something more than a simple budgetary offer, but Cyber X may well be a volume seller which proves that MG can also make a desirable design.
