Tony Dungy’s refusal to discuss his Pro Football Hall of Fame vote has people talking.
First, his own NBC colleague Rodney Harrison appeared to lash out at Dungy during the Super Bowl pregame show, saying “you were wrong” by not voting for Bill Belichick.
Dungy did not say whether he voted for Belichick, citing an “oath” he took to avoid discussing behind-the-scenes actions. Dungy, of course, is allowed to reveal his own vote, but not that of others.

But Dungy’s silence on his own ballot led New York Yankees play-by-play announcer and New York radio host Michael Kay to tear him apart.
“Tony Dungy, again, who is paid by NBC, was asked on the endless pregame show whether or not he voted for Bill Belichick. He said he wouldn’t discuss it. First of all, if I was NBC, I would fire him on the spot,” Kay said on his own show Monday. “We pay you the amount we pay you. You discuss it. What is your value to us if you’re in the news and you don’t discuss it with us? I mean, for him not discussing it, you know he’s one of 11 people who didn’t vote for Bill Belichick. …
“You’re doing something that’s a big part of history. You’re stopping the greatest coach of all time from being a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and you don’t have the courage to discuss it? You have the temerity to say, ‘No, I’m not going to discuss it.’ Why not? Why don’t you discuss it? It just doesn’t make sense to me. I think this gives him a very bad image. And for a guy with an impeccable reputation, [he] It’s not coming off well.”

Out of the category Belichick was in — along with Robert Kraft, Roger Craig, Ken Anderson and LC Greenwood — he didn’t receive enough votes. Craig was the only one elected to the Hall of Fame from this group.
Although Dungy did not reveal his own vote, he discussed the process somewhat.
“People think we voted against Bill Belichick,” Dungy said. “We didn’t do it. In fact, the exact same vote. In fact, if the same vote had taken place, with the same total as two years ago, Bill Belichick would have been elected, as would another deserving Hall of Famer, and that’s why I’m upset. It’s not fair.”

Belichick won eight Super Bowls during his NFL career – six with the New England Patriots and two as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants.
