Former First Lady Michelle Obama addressed her recent absences of political events and rumors of marital disorders during a podcast published on Tuesday.
Obama said on the Podcast “Work in Progress” with actress Sophia Bush that she now had the possibility of controlling her own calendar and can now make “a choice for me”, reported Cnn.
“I could have made a lot of these decisions years ago, but I did not give myself this freedom,” said Michelle, adding: “Maybe even as much as I let my children live their own life, I use their life as an excuse to explain why I couldn’t do something.”
She continued: “And now let’s go. And then now I have to look at my – I can watch my calendar, what I did this year, was a real great example of me, myself looking at something that I had to do – you know, without naming names – and I wanted to do what was best for me, not what I had to do, not what I thought I wanted.”
In addition, Michelle notably jumped the second inauguration of President Donald Trump, as well as the funeral of the state of former president Jimmy Carter in January.
She then discussed the guilt of saying no and how her recent choices to move away from certain responsibilities have raised rumors of a possible divorce from her husband, former president Barack Obama.
“I always find time to know, to say speeches, to be there in the world, to work on projects. I always care about the education of girls. We know, the library opens in a year. Some things I am and I don’t do with the library, “said Obama.
She continued: “This is the thing that we, as women, I think we are fighting with disappointing people. I mean so much that this year, people were, you know – they couldn’t even understand that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I divorce.”
