“As soon as he clicked that it was, I couldn’t be arrested. I had to go there. I never felt anything like that.

“These boys are high school boys. They are 15 years old. The game means a lot for them. It’s all their life right now. They are there before getting up to go to work in the morning before dinner, put the work and for someone to try to take this to someone who does so much for me to see.”

She said her son had finished for the season and had to recover completely.

Mims, in articles on Facebook, thanked those who offer prayers. She wrote that central Kalamazoo players contacted her to apologize.

“It really made me cry and helped to remind me that the actions of the players do not actually reflect an entire team, & have not; in all respects,” she wrote. “We stand with the good side, and we are very grateful to everyone in this community and we extend behind us; and continue to share history.”

The Kalamazoo central player has not been identified.
