- Outlook was down for North America users – and perhaps other regions too
- Connection, server connections and mail sending / reception have all been assigned
- The problem was assigned to the use of the “unexpected” processor
A system failure affecting Outlook users across North America, which has now been resolved, has led users to not be able to access emails and calendars via an Exchange online connection method.
The problem, followed like ex1151485 in the administration center, was covered on the Microsoft 365 Status X page in a series of messages.
Microsoft said that the “majority of previously degraded infrastructure” had been “restored” about 14 hours after the release of the first post, but the company chose not to share details on the breakdown.
Outlook has just returned online
The breakdown started early Thursday morning (September 11) local time, users noting problems between Outlook, teams and hotmail. Some have also noted OneDrive problems, but we don’t know if they are connected.
Connection problems and server connection problems were the main problems, but delays in email delivery also caused headache for many.
In the hours following the publication of its first X update, Microsoft reassured users he “continued to assess the telemetry of services for the potential irregularities of the system”.
Downdector has seen points in complaints relating to Microsoft 365 and Outlook Online, while the company’s public assistance page reported “the degradation of the service on Microsoft consumer products”. For Outlook, most complaints related to connection, with the connection of the server and the reception of a few remarks.
He then applied “optimizations” which caused “certain service improvements” before revealing that some users of South America had also been affected by the disturbances.
The defect has since been attributed to “the use of unexpected resources (CPU) (CPU) which can contribute to connection errors and failures for the mailboxes hosted on this part of the infrastructure”, determined by telemetry and trace newspapers analyzed by Microsoft engineers.
Microsoft continues to monitor the problem for any other sign, but for the moment, the services remain “in the expected thresholds”.
