- The new Microsoft accounts will use Passkeys by default, reveals the company
- Existing users can also delete their passwords
- The connection experience has an update interface
Microsoft will make all the new accounts without default password in order to push users to more secure authentication methods that revolve around Passkeys, push notifications and safety keys.
“Microsoft and dozens of other organizations have made Passkey’s commitment to work to increase the implementation and adoption of Passkeys in the coming year,” said Microsoft in a blog article.
Naturally, existing users can also choose to delete their traditional passwords via account parameters in favor of more secure options.
Microsoft becomes without default password
Affirming that this “helped lay the bases of an entirely new authentication era”, Microsoft’s blog brings us ten years to the launch of Microsoft Hello, which allowed users to connect to secure biometric machines.
“To ensure the safety of your digital life, you need a way to log into All account Without a password, “explained Joy Chik and Vasu Jakkal.
But why is it important to move away from less secure simple passwords?
Apparently, Microsoft observed more than 7,000 password attacks per second last year, marking a double increase from one year to the next.
However, although Passkeys manufactures a more secure account, the company noted that old -fashioned accounts with basic passwords can expect to see even more attempts to attack. All the more reason to pass without password on all accounts – not just your Microsoft account.
They are also faster, offering a connection experience eight times faster compared to the password and the MFA combination.
Passkeys for consumer applications like Xbox and Copilot has already become available in 2024, and now more than a million are recorded every day.
Other recent announcements include an updated connection user experience, with a simpler style introduced in March 2025 to prioritize Passworldess methods, all just in time for World Password’s day.
From now on, “new users will have several options without password to connect their account and they will never need to register a password.”
