- Administrators received a 60 -day reminder on this driver’s depreciation
- WSUS itself has also received a limited lifespan
- Microsoft is pressure for alternatives based on the cloud
Microsoft has given a 60 -day reminder that synchronization of the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) driver will be obsolete from April 18, 2025.
The two -month warning reminds us of the administrators to move on to alternative solutions, but the reality is that they had even more than that to prepare – Microsoft announced the change in June 2024 for the first time.
After depreciation, the import of drivers into WSUS will no longer be possible, but on -site drivers will always be available via the Microsoft update catalog, confirms the company.
Synchronization of the WSUS driver will end in two months
“You will need to use one of the alternative solutions available, such as device drivers packages, or go to cloud -based driver services for your organization, such as Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopatch,” said the company.
In June 2024, when we were informed of the change for the first time, Microsoft’s senior program manager Paul Reed confirmed only one in three (34%) used the tool to synchronize drivers , and most were already implementing alternative systems.
However, Reed said that the company was determined to help the remaining 8% that expressed concerns about the effects of depreciation.
Reed wrote: “For on -site contexts, drivers will be available in the Microsoft update catalog, but you will not be able to import them into WSUS. You will need to use other means, such as device drivers packages, to distribute drivers from your network, “adding that Microsoft was planning to promulgate depreciation on April 18 – a date on which it is stuck.
More broadly, it was revealed in September 2024 that WSUS himself is ready for damping (via The register), the company pushing cloud -based alternatives like intune.
