- Microsoft 365 E7 tier could be added with additional AI tools and agent management
- This could generate subscription revenue even if AI agents become “workers”
- Speculation positions the plan toward the high end, costing around $99/month.
Microsoft is reportedly considering a new Microsoft 365 enterprise tier designed to fill an emerging gap in the world of agentic AI, ensuring the company maintains subscription revenue even as human seat counts decline.
Designed for organizations deploying AI tools and agents as colleagues alongside human workers, the new tier could require agents to have their own identities, email addresses, Teams access, and policy controls, just like regular workers.
Business Insider reports suggest that the new subscription could be called E7 and that it would likely combine E5 with Copilot and agent management into a single license.
What is Microsoft 365 E7?
Microsoft has yet to officially confirm the existence of the E7, but rumors suggest it could combine the security and compliance features of the E5 with the Copilot tools built into Office apps. An additional Agent 365 layer would also help businesses deploy and manage AI agents.
For customers, this could mean built-in governance and security for AI agents and a simpler billing process under a single SKU. Likewise, it could lead to high costs for large companies and foster dependency on suppliers as customers move deeper into the ecosystem.
For Microsoft, however, this could be a solution to monetizing enterprise AI adoption as AI agents gain popularity, using existing per-seat pricing but translating it from human to agent.
Given that Microsoft 365 E5 currently costs $57/month (it will increase to $60/month starting July 2026) and Copilot costs $30/month, the E7’s monthly price could reach triple. That said, Microsoft has not publicly disclosed its plans to offer such a subscription at this time. TechRadar Pro awaiting a response from Microsoft for confirmation.
