- Microsoft removes teams for € 2 reduction, option to add it for € 5
- It is necessary to do more to improve the interoperability of software
- Rivals and customers seem satisfied with the solution
Microsoft is expected to avoid a large antitrust fine after the European Union has accepted its offer to disintegrate the Office videoconferencing platform teams – which means that the teams will now have to be sold separately from Office 365 and Microsoft 365 licenses.
Conditions stipulate that Microsoft must sell unanswered packages to reflect the deletion of its online collaboration software.
Microsoft must also do more to improve the interoperability of its software with competitors in order to prevent the locking of suppliers.
Microsoft is about to do the teams after a European battle
The imminent agreement comes after a battle of several years in Europe – the case arises from a complaint in 2020 of Slack. Despite Europe’s efforts to conclude agreements rather than issuing fines, they did not come without their just part of control.
The White House has already criticized the alleged control of Europe on American technological companies.
Bloomberg Notes that competitors and customers have not raised any major concern following the proposal for non-colls of the teams from the rest of the Microsoft package, which suggests that this could be the last step required to raft the complaint.
Earlier in the complaint calendar, we have already seen Microsoft and its rivals open part of the administrative formalities to improve interoperability between their platforms.
A year ago, the president of Microsoft, Brad Smith, noted: “In the teams, we did a lot of work, our work is not yet finished. Microsoft is determined to find a resolution to the concerns of regulators. ”
Smith also admitted that Microsoft should take “additional measures” to appease regulators.
Microsoft shared the details of its unless of -team prices in 2023, confirming that the packages would cost € 2 / month or 24 € / year less in EEA and Switzerland. However, the teams would be available as an autonomous package for € 5 / month or € 60 / year, which caused a higher overall cost and a largely ineffective decision.
Techradar Pro Contacted the European Commission and Microsoft for more clarification on stages and details on prices, but we have not received an immediate response.
