Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is expected to announce his political future Monday during a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m.
The governor’s office said Walz will answer questions and discuss the news of the day.
However, a report from political insider Blois Olson claims that Walz will announce he will withdraw from the gubernatorial race in 2026.
No such details were shared by the governor’s office.
Olson claimed Walz met with Sen. Amy Klobuchar to discuss the issue amid pressure from Democratic circles to make a decision on his 2026 candidacy.
He said Sen. Klobuchar is one of the serious contenders for the seat if Walz were to step down, adding that Secretary of State Steve Simon could also enter the race.
The development comes after United States President Donald Trump repeatedly criticized the governor for his handling of Medicaid fraud in the state.
The president hurled vile insults at the governor and called him “seriously retarded.”
Earlier, Walz’s daughter Hope also lashed out at President Trump in a since-deleted TikTok video and discussed the impact of Trump’s post on her family.
Walz’s office has not yet responded to a request for comment.
