“A large federal jury charged Phillips 66, owner of the 76 brand of the service station whose logo is displayed through the Dodger stadium, for having allegedly sent thousands of gallons of water contaminated by oil and fat in the sewer system of the county of the”, a press release from the climate Reality Reality Project.

“The company is accused of knowingly and neglecting the Clean Water Act.”

In a petition signed by more than 27,000 people, activists called Walter to “immediately end” their sponsorship agreement with Phillips 66, which described the “Greenwashing of the worst type” partnership.

The United States Ministry of Justice announced an indictment of six counts in November alleging that Phillips 66 had violated the clean water act by pouring “hundreds of thousands of gallons of industrial wastewater of its oil refinery Carson in the sewage system of the County Los Angeles”. The company has also been accused of not having reported these violations.

Controversial climate group confronted with bankruptcy, how did it get here?

The accusations arise from an incident on November 24, 2020. According to the Office of the American Prosecutor for the California Central District, Phillips 66 would have discharged around 310,000 gallons of “non -compliant industrial waters” in the sewer system during a 2.5 hour window.

Wastewater would contain approximately 64,000 pounds of oil and fat.

In a separate incident on February 8, 2021, 480,000 additional gallons would have been released in the sewer system.

Earlier this month, the head of the majority of the California state Senate, Lena Gonzalez, also called on Dodgers to end their partnership with Phillips 66.

“Putting the sponsorship with Phillips 66 would send the message that it is time to put an end to our adoption of polluting fossil fuels and work together to a cleaner and green future,” Gonzalez’s letter told Walter.

Dodgers will open the season at home Thursday against the Detroit Tigers.
