Lee Shaw is a major character who may not be back in season 2. Played by father-son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell last season – the two men played Shaw in the present and past respectively – the US Army colonel was an integral part of the season’s cast.
However, in the season 1 finale, Shaw appeared to die after sacrificing himself to ensure Cate and company could escape. Sure, Shaw may have survived, but we won’t know if Kurt Russell is part of the proceedings until Season 2 begins on one of the global channels. best streaming services.
Unless Monarch The story of season 2 takes place over several periods, Wyatt Rusell will not be back either. The same is true for Anders Holm, with the actor set to reprise his role as young Bill Randa in the flashbacks that are very present throughout this season.
As for the newcomers, only one new casting has been announced – admittedly, not officially – by the trades. By variety, Amber Midthunder (Prey, Novocaine) is reportedly on board as Isabel, a character who will have a significant recurring role to play in season 2.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, speculation on the story of season 2
Full spoilers follow for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 1. Potential spoilers for season 2 are also discussed.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters the story summary for season 2 has not been revealed yet. However, based on what happened in last season’s finale, we can try to figure out where things might go next.
This is your final warning: major spoilers immediately follow for Season 1 Episode 10, titled “Beyond Logic,” so turn back now if you haven’t seen it.
Season 1 ended with Lee, Keiko, May and Cate on a mission to escape the Hollow Earth, with Lee seemingly sacrificing himself to let the others do so.
Back in 2017, the trio breathes a sigh of relief. Well, until they realize that the nefarious tech company Apex Cybernetics, run by Brenda Holland – May’s evil boss – is responsible for helping them get home. Worse still, Cate and Kentaro’s father Hiroshi, as well as Kentaro and Tim, work for them.
Interestingly, the place they are taken back to is none other than Skull Island, aka the home of the towering monkey known as Kong.
With this titan making a brief appearance in the final scene of season 1, it’s possible Monarch season 2 might focus more on him than Godzilla, especially since these two monsters haven’t met at this point in the Monster-Verse timeline. In fact, they will only cross paths in 2021. Godzilla vs. Kong.
Additionally, at this point in the timeline, Godzilla is about to fight King Ghidorah in the 2017 film. Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Season 2 will therefore be a sort of interquel, the story of which will probably take place between the aforementioned films.
If that’s the case, Kong and his future titan best friend will continue to be separated for the time being. Hopefully though, we’ll still get some sort of kaiju-on-kaiju action in Monarch season 2.
As for the human casting of one of the best Apple TV shows, it will be interesting to see how Cate, May and Keiko deal with the fallout from their trip to Hollow Earth, with Apex saving them, and Kentaro, Hiroshi and Tim working in tandem with Apex to save the others.
Then there’s the little matter of Keiko herself. She is Hiroshi’s mother and Cate and Kentaro’s grandmother, but she doesn’t look much older than either of them.
This is because she was trapped in the Hollow Earth for decades, meaning she did not age in the same way as humans on the surface. How will she live in a world much more technologically advanced than the one she left in the 1960s? And how much time will Monarch: Legacy of Monsters spend exploring the strained relationship she will have with Hiroshi, as well as the bonds she will need/want to build with Cate and Kentaro?
There will inevitably be other narrative opportunities to flesh out the Monster-Verse, notably Monarch season 2 serves as additional connective tissue between King of Monsters And Godzilla vs. Kong. Depending on what’s happening in this season’s story, Legacy of Monsters should also lay the groundwork for other stories in this franchise. Speaking of which…

Like the films that gave rise to the idea of a Monster-Verse TV show, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 could serve as a jumping off point for other tales in this franchise.
As revealed in the X/Twitter post above when the series was renewed last April, Apple revealed that it had reached a new multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which included several spin-offs.
At the time, Morgan Wandell, Apple TV’s head of international development, said: “We couldn’t be more excited that viewers will not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but also embark on epic new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary’s Monster-Verse.”
As for a third season of Monarch itself, there have been no whispers that Apple and/or Legendary have given it the green light internally. As seems to be the case these days, a lot will depend on the cost of making the show and its audience. Until one or both companies publicly confirm whether Season 3 is in development, we don’t know. Monarch‘s returns after his next entry.
