Mookie Betts won her second World Series in October, but this weekend will mark his first time to commemorate a World Series victory with President Donald Trump.
Betts won a title with the Boston Red Sox in 2018, the same year he was appointed MVP from the American League.
However, he chose to jump the team’s celebration to the White House in 2019.
This will not be the case this year.

“It’s not about me; I don’t want to be about me. These are dodgers. Because these boys were there for me,” said Betts, via La Times.
Betts said he had regretted not having made the trip in 2019, which manager Alex Cora and launcher David Price also jumped, saying he was thinking that he was a distraction.
“No matter what I say or what I do, people will consider it political. But that is certainly not what it is. This is what the Dodgers were able to accomplish last year,” he said.
Cora recently admitted that he had jumped to meet Trump because he wanted to give priority to his country of origin of Puerto Rico. When the Red Sox visited the White House in May 2019, Puerto Rico was still recovering from the destruction of Hurricane Maria in 2017, and Cora was not satisfied with the response of the federal government.

Other Dodgers had been asked about their status for the trip, but Betts’ decision was naturally in the lead.
“This is what it is. It comes with the territory, being black in America in a situation like this. It is a difficult place to be,” he said. “No matter what I choose, someone will be upset. Someone will have their own opinion. But, once again, it’s not for me. It is about politics. These are dodgers. It is my loyalty to these boys, this clubhouse. And that’s it for me.”

The Philadelphia Eagles will visit the White House later this month, and the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers realized earlier this year.
