More than 47,000 police officers will be deployed through Punjab during the Eidul Fitr holidays to ensure security, provincial police announced on Sunday.

Eidul Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, should take place on Monday, subject to the observation of the moon.

The three -day holidays are celebrated with large rallies, and although attacks during Eid are rare, the last months have increased militant violence in the Western provinces of Pakistan, especially along the Afghan border.

“More than 47,000 officers and staff will be deployed for more than 29,000 Eid rallies in the province,” said Punjab police on the X social media platform. “Mosques, imambargas, markets and important locations will be continuously monitored by video surveillance cameras.”

In addition, more than 21,000 officers, including women, will be stationed in the markets and the main locations on the eve of Eid.

Punjab police added that regional and district police would oversee security operations throughout the holidays, and strict measures would be taken against women or harassed families. “A wheel, an air shot, hooliganism and a kite flight are prohibited,” they warned.

In the capital, Islamabad police will deploy more than 3,500 staff members to secure the city, with more than 500 traffic officials assigned to ensure fluid flow during the festivities.
