Sindh:
More than 80 peacocks are dead and hundreds of others have fallen ill in various rural areas of Tharparkar, apparently due to a mysterious disease aggravated by intense heat and a lack of food and water.
According to residents of the affected regions – notably Islamkot, Nagarparkar and Chachro Tehsils – Peacocks have symptoms such as flu, fever, inflammation of the throat and, in some cases, vision loss. Local accounts suggest that birds are unable to recover once the symptoms are installed.
The impact is particularly serious in wooded areas, where peacocks are already struggling to increase temperatures and dehydration during the summer season.
Peacocks are considered an emblematic species of the Thar desert, often admired for their dynamic plumage and their cultural meaning. Their declining health has raised concerns among fauna lovers and environmentalists.
The authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the disease or to announce an official survey or an emergency response in the region.
Mithi and other parts of Tharparkar continue to cope with intense heat, with temperatures due to 42 ° C today. A warm and dry weather persists in most of the Sindh, without precipitation expected.
Most of the country will mainly experience hot and dry weather. The highest temperatures recorded on Sunday were Jacobabad (43 ° C) and Mithi, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad (42 ° C).
