Chilas: A climber from the Czech Republic died during the expedition of the Nanga Parbat after falling from the mountain between camp 1 and 2, according to Diamer officials.

Klara Kolouchova, 46, was part of an expedition team of seven members, including her husband, who arrived in Pakistan on June 15 and reached the base camp two days later.

Diamer’s additional sub-commissioner, Nizamuddin, said that Klara’s teammates confirmed his death after returning to the base camp, but his body remains on the fall site.

He said efforts are underway to confirm the exact place where the mountaineer fell before starting a recovery operation.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the incident occurred around 4 am.

Rescue managers and high altitude bearers were sent to the region, although recovery efforts are complicated by the extreme mountain land.

Karrar Haidri, vice-president of the Alpine club Alpine in Pakistan, expressed deep pain when the Czech climber died, calling it “inspiration for climbers in the world”.

“We are devastated by the loss of Klára Kolouchova, an extraordinary mountaineer who had conquered some of the highest peaks in the world,” said Haidri in a statement. “Our hearts go to his family, his friends and the global climbing community during this painful period.”

Haidri has confirmed that the Alpine Club coordinated with local authorities to help the recovery efforts.

Kolouchová acquired international recognition as the first Czech woman at the top both Everest and K2, two of the highest peaks in the world.

His attempt on Nanga Parbat – The second highest mountain in Pakistan at 8,125 meters – was part of his quest to climb the 14 000 meters world peaks.

Nanga Parbat is the third most dangerous 8,000 meter peak, with a mortality rate of around 22% of climbers. The “Moler Mountain” – as it is entitled – has made more than 60 lives.

It is one of the most important peaks of the Himalayan chain after Mount Everest. Nanga Parbat has a large vertical relief on the local field in almost all directions.

Its southern “rapal face” is called the highest face of the mountain in the world, which increases 4,600 m (at around 15,090 feet) above sea level. Its “rakhiot flank” in the North is one of the 10 largest altitude gains on such a short distance on earth. It increases by 7,000 m (about 23,000 feet) above sea level.
