Islamabad:
The federal government has decided to convene the Central Committee of Rue-E-Hilal in Peshawar to see the Moon Ramazan, aiming for a unified start to the sacred month through Pakistan.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meeting to determine the start of Ramazan 1446 Hijri will be held on February 28.
The president of the Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad committee will chair the session.
The Rue-E-Hilal zonal committees will hold separate meetings in their respective regions, but the final decision on the observation of the moon will come from the central body.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs will oversee the arrangements.
Pakistan has historically faced the differences in the observation of the moon, leading to variable dates of Ramazan and Eid in different provinces, in particular between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country.
The government hopes that the displacement of the meeting of the central committee in Peshawar will promote consensus among religious scholars and will ensure synchronized respect for the sacred month.
