Karachi: The Muttahida Qaumi Pakistan (MQM-P) movement called a large meeting of the Rabita Committee to deliberate on the opposition benches of the National Assembly.

Addressing the media in Parliament, the leader of the MQM-P, Aminul Haque, confirmed that the party had summoned the group to discuss the issue. “We have called a meeting of the central committee to decide to sit down as independent or on the opposition benches,” he said.

Haque, the former federal minister, also stressed that MQM-P had argued Shehbaz Sharif as Prime Minister in the hope that he would respect his commitments.

However, he deplored that the promises made to MQM-P, including the Sindh and Hyderabad development packages are not satisfied.

“The Shehbaz Sharif government has assured us development projects for Karachi and Hyderabad, but no commitment has been honored in the last 18 months,” added Haque, citing ongoing reserves on the approach of the federal government towards the MQM-P.

He added that the party would discuss its separation from the power coalition and the possibility of going to the opposition benches, because there has been no visible progress in development projects.
