Rawalpindi:
As the new exercise 2025-26 approaches, the municipal committees in the Rawalpindi district introduced high increases in water prices and other taxes, already frustrated citizens are already frustrated.
In a movement nicknamed a “water bomb” by the inhabitants, the water bills were strongly raised.
In Kahuta, the municipal administrator increased the residential water bill from RS200 to Rs1,500 per month, and the commercial water bill from 400 rupees to RS3,000.
A new industrial industry bill of 10,000 rupees per month has also been introduced. The reconnection of disconnected water supplies now requires full payment of contributions plus reconnection fees of 5,000 rupees.
A 1% municipal tax has been imposed on all real estate transactions within the limits of the committee.
The costs of slaughterhouses have also increased significantly: for small animals such as goats and sheep, the costs went from RS50 to RS150 per capita, and for larger animals such as cows and buffalo, from RS100 to Rs300.
Advertising costs have also increased.
The workshop establishment costs are up from RS5 to RS15 per square foot per month, hob from RS30 to RS100, sky to RS24 to RS80 and digital screens (LCD / VCD) from RS150 to RS450.
Advertising floats have also experienced massive increases like truck and bus tanks are now cost 60,000 rupees per month (compared to 20,000 rupees), while the smallest vehicle floats like Shehzore and Suzuki have doubled at Rs30,000 and RS16,000, respectively.
According to the municipal administrator, residents have one month to table objections at these new rates, after which the revised prices will be implemented.
