The American national male team is in the running for the coveted trophy of the winners of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. But, while the USMNT was preparing for Wednesday’s semi-final match against Guatemala, a flying object disrupted the team’s training grounds.
An unidentified party would have exploited what seemed to be a drone near the team training center in St. Louis, CBS Sports reported.
The American Football Federation deployed three drones before Tuesday’s training session, according to the Associated Press. American coach Mauricio Pochettino finally shed light on the fourth unexpected drone.

“If someone wants clips, we can send. This is not a problem,” said Pocsettino. “We are not going to hide anything. It’s not NASA here. It is the national national team – Men’s Nother.”
The drone in question finally landed outside the fenced perimeter of the training establishment.

ESPN said that American football staff are trying to identify the drone.

Aside from the air disruption, the USMNT had to face a situation on the ground. A group of people had to be invited to stop what seemed to be an unauthorized shooting of the session, reported CBS Sports. It is not clear if the incident had a correlation with the flying object.

American men have not reached the Gold Cup final since 2021. The Americans brought the championship that year. The Guatemala national team never appeared in the final.
Regarding the crucial semi-final, Pochettino said it was not clear if midfielder Johnny Cardoso will be available for Wednesday’s match. Cardoso missed the victory in the quarterfinals on Sunday on Costa Rica.
“He was training a little today, but he feels … A problem again at the ankle,” said Pocsettino. “It’s not a big problem, but it’s an uncomfortable situation.”
