Islamabad:
Pandemonium seized the National Assembly on Monday after President Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that no member would be authorized to speak “in favor” of Fitna al-Khawarij or against the current operation, causing an uproar and demonstrations of the opposition benches.
The loaded session, marked by slogans, heckling and debraying, was quickly constituted in that observers described as an “assembly in an assembly”.
The opposition legislators, led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, formed two rows in front of the speaker’s platform and began to say their own speeches, intensifying the disturbances and leaving the house in disarray.
Earlier, the journalists of the press gallery organized a ranging at the call of the parliamentary association of journalists to protest against the alleged verbal violence of the main journalist Ijaz Ahmed by the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, during his trial in Adiala prison.
In response, President Sadiq sent members of the Treasury and Jeu-F benches to persuade journalists. After their return, the legislative MQM Khawaja Izharul Hassan presented a resolution condemning the conduct of the founder of the PTI and demanding security for Ijaz Ahmed.
“This house strongly condemns the behavior of the founder of the PTI and requests protection for the main journalist Ijaz Ahmed,” said the resolution.
The president of the PTI, lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, argued that his party supported press freedom, but said that the question needed clarity. “Allow me at least to meet you and discover what happened between the founder of the PTI and the journalist,” he added.
In the middle of the noise, the federal minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh succeeded in tabled the bill on affairs of affairs, which was adopted by majority vote despite the cries and opposition demonstrations.
The minister of Law, Azam Nazeer Tarar, struck the opposition, saying: “If the opposition has the courage, let them openly support Fitna-E-Khawarij. Instead of taking privileges here and screaming, going out and holding your own assembly.”
The legislative MQM Asia Ishaq has also increased emotionally to declare that “no one will be authorized to speak against the army or in favor of terrorists”.
The session was adjourned until 11 a.m. on Tuesday (today).
