ISLAMABAD:

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination on Wednesday unanimously decided to move a privilege motion against the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for failure to submit the required dossier, including the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) proposals.

The committee met in Parliament under the chairmanship of Munaza Hassan. The committee chairman expressed concern about the ministry’s failure to provide mandatory information documents, calling it a lack of respect for parliamentary oversight and procedural obligations.

Members noted that despite the inclusion of the PSDP review on the agenda, no comprehensive briefing was provided for review.

The commission observed that withholding crucial development information from a standing committee violates established rules and undermines its constitutional role of ensuring transparency, accountability and financial prudence in climate-related public spending.

Members also noted the CDA’s failure to provide the required documentation, emphasizing that repeated non-compliances could not be normalized.

The committee subsequently decided to initiate a motion of privilege against the department and the CDA president for failing to assist the committee in discharging its parliamentary responsibilities.
