ISLAMABAD:
A parliamentary panel on Tuesday flagged a growing skills gap limiting access to major job markets such as Japan and South Korea, although the country produces nearly 800,000 university graduates a year.
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, chaired by Syed Rafiullah, reviewed Pakistan’s overseas employment strategy. The panel undertook a comprehensive review of overseas facilitation mechanisms, focusing on the performance of Community Welfare Officers (CWAs), overseas labor market penetration and recognition of Pakistani qualifications abroad.
Members said overseas Pakistanis remain a vital national asset, but stressed that institutional performance must be measured through tangible facilitation results rather than routine reporting.
