The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Information and the Radiation met Thursday at PTV headquarters under the chairmanship of MNA Pullain Baloch to discuss questions related to Pakistani television (PTV). The committee was informed that PTV had won 7.5 billion advertising revenue rupees during the year 2023-24, exceeding its target of 6.2 billion rupees. The income target for the current year should also be achieved. Despite this, PTV continues to deal with financial challenges. A large part of the billions of rupees collected by TV license costs in electricity bills would be used for wages and pensions. Management has allocated delays in wage payments to diverted funds for international financial obligations and the purchase of international media rights. The Committee has also been informed of the increase in the number of viewers resulting from programming improvements and new talents on the screen, as well as continuous efforts to improve the pension management system in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board. The details of non -efficient and politically appointed licensees during the current restructuring process were also shared. Addressing the delayed attribution of the plots to journalists in the Islamabad F-14, F-15 and Bhara Kahu sectors, the committee ordered the ministry to finish the examination of the request and to resolve the related grievances within two months. On the 2025 PEMRA bill (amendment), moved by MNA Asia Naz Tanoli, the Committee examined the report submitted by its subcommittee led by Mna Mehtab Akbar Rashdi. Pemra was responsible for providing comments on the recommendations. The Committee asked PTV, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and Shalimar Recording and Broadcasting Company (SRBC) to ensure the disbursement of wages and pensions to all employees before the next EID. Earlier, the Committee unanimously adopted a resolution praising the professionalism of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in the defense of national sovereignty against Indian aggression.
