Islamabad:
The federal government has appointed Nadeem Mahbub Teaching Secretary as the acting president of the Higher Education Commission since the end of Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed’s mandate.
The Ministry of Education has published an official notification of the appointment which specifies that the appointment will be three months or until the appointment of a permanent president of HEC.
Mahbub is also a member of the HEC commission and on this basis, the Prime Minister appointed him acting president under paragraph 3 of article 8 of the HEC law. According to sources, the former president of HEC made various appointments and transfers yesterday.
HEC sources have said that in the summary sent by the Ministry of Education, an explanation was requested concerning the notification of Dr. Mukhtar’s mandate. However, the Prime Minister’s office also approved the appointment of an acting president in accordance with the Summary Act.
Mahbub will assume the responsibilities of the president and the secretary of the HEC from Wednesday.
