Google’s NotebookLM has added some new options to reinvent search, infographics and slideshows. The platform turns to the new Nano Banana Pro image-creation AI model to produce both infographics and slides, a big moment for multi-modal AI tools. and a surprisingly elegant fusion of research and design.
Nano Banana Pro is designed to synthesize accurate, grounded information into visual formats, correctly render text within images, and be consistent across styles and formats. After seeing the power of Nano Banana Pro, I decided to test infographics and slide creation using a topic with a lot of information available, King Arthur and the legends that grew up around him. I wanted to see how successful NotebookLM was in transforming the ancient British myth into modern visual storytelling.

I started with some infographic suggestions. First, I asked to see a comparison between the early King Arthur stories and the more complete myth created later. Next, I asked to see a timeline of the character development of King Arthur and Merlin.
Nano Banana Pro and NotebookLM have done an excellent job of establishing a direct visual and thematic line between the earliest known versions of the Arthur myth (c. 800-950 CE) and the more elaborate medieval romances (1136-1485 CE). The infographic shows the raw, warlike and primitive myth becoming lush, courtly and full of additional iconic elements. The text was mostly readable, but had a few issues that would take a few iterations to resolve.
For this second infographic, I wanted a journey through historical eras, showing how the appearances and roles of Arthur and Merlin evolved over time. You can see both repeated throughout the ages, looking very different each time and getting a new title and description each time. Transitions in time are not just visual; they are thematic. Each pair reflects the politics, morality and aesthetics of the era. The fact that Nano Banana Pro can maintain character consistency while moving from medievalism to cyberpunk is frankly remarkable.

For the slideshow, I asked the AI to represent the Arthurian myth cycle at different historical stages, from its original form to the 21st century. After a few minutes, NotebookLM revealed Arthur the Endless Reflection. I’ve included some sample images above, but these are just a few of the 15 slides created by NotebookLM and Nano Banana Pro.
Although imperfect, the result gave the impression of a complete multimedia lecture series that just needed a little proofreading and polishing. This richly illustrated and thematically coherent visual essay uses images, historical framing, and analysis of myths with surprising sophistication.
The opening slide instantly sets the tone: a collage of Arthurian faces, from the medieval scroll king to the anime knight to the sinister warlord to the brilliant sci-fi paladin, are arranged around the blunt declaration “THERE IS NO KING ARTHUR.” It’s a mission statement built into the design, and it announces the game’s thesis more confidently than most man-made opening slides.
What stands out most is how Nano Banana Pro easily transitions from one style to another in the service of meaning. A medieval-style frieze shows Arthur rising, ruling and falling in careful narrative rhythms. Next, Chrétien de Troyes’ transformation of Arthur’s court into an engine of romance is presented as an ornate triptych before finally showing a full comic spectacle, using bright sci-fi colors and sharp panels to examine Arthur as a superhero.
More than anything, what this presentation demonstrates is how Nano Banana Pro in NotebookLM changes the way research happens. Instead of a text-heavy outline or a rough brainstorming board, the deck becomes a polished argument ready to present with just a little extra work.
Add the right banana…uh…AI ingredient
NotebookLM always seemed to be Google’s most promising Gemini-based experiment. But until recently, it was all about summarization and citation, a glorified research assistant. Nano Banana Pro makes it a powerful visual storytelling partner.
The infographics and slideshow are visually compelling and structured in a way that makes a lot of sense, if not flawless. There is room for human refinement. But it’s a very attractive set of tools for those who lack an eye or talent for design.
Being able to gather important information and then request visualizations takes a lot of pressure off. It’s the difference between writing notes for a presentation and leaving the room with the presentation already finished. It’s magic that Merlin (at least in some forms) might also appreciate.
