Islamabad:

Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry excluded the possibility of a new military operation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Thursday, arguing that efforts to combat current terrorism within the framework of the National Action Plan (NAP) would continue without interruption.

Responding to the concerns raised by the Pakistani legislator Tehreek-i-insaf (PTI) Asad Qaiser and Pakistan Peoples Part (PPP) MNA Shazia Marri during a session of the National Assembly chaired by President Ayaz Sadiq, the Minister clearly indicated that the resolution of the state of fighting the terrorism was unshak. “Let me be clear, nap operations will not be stopped by anyone, no matter who they are,” he said.

In a strong criticism of PTI policies, Chaudhry questioned the previous conduct of the party. “Who brought the TTP? What CM said:” We are not fighting or we will end up as PPP or ANP “?” He asked.

Speaking on the demonstrations of August 5 by PTI, the minister defended the security measures of the government, in particular the closure of the doors of the Parliament.

He cited the application of article 144 and a large gathering near D-CHOWK as a valid concerns. “The doors of the Parliament have been closed for incoming crowds, not outgoing MNA, which came out without obstruction,” he said.

Regarding the PTI protest rate, the Minister has minimized his scale. “In Islamabad, less than 100 demonstrators gathered and even they were briefly detained. No MNA was arrested. In Punjab, 94 people were detained by a population of 130 million inhabitants,” he said, adding that most of the demonstrations were symbolic and ended quickly.

Chaudhry rejected PTI’s account surrounding the incidents of May 9, reiterating that popularity does not grant the immunity of the law. “Those who attacked state symbols have given this for political purposes and are now faced with legal consequences,” he said.

“Those who set fire to the monuments did it for future electoral tickets, and now they are faced with the consequences. The courts of Punjab and Peshawar make decisions – what is more equity? ”

During the session, Marri de PPP raised the question of pilgrims (Zaireen) who travel by road to participate in the Arbaeen walk during Chehlum. She expressed her concern about the ban on land trips which had left nearly 200,000 blocked pilgrims, because financial constraints prevent them from allowing themselves to travel by plane.

“I ask the government to organize certain subsidized flights for pilgrims who cannot afford trips by plane,” she said.

Responding to his concerns, Chaudhry confirmed that land trips for Arbaeen pilgrims via Iran had been suspended due to regional tensions resulting from the Israeli-Iranian conflict.

He said that the Interior Ministry and the Provincial Authorities were involved in dialogue with protest pilgrims and the leaders of Majlis Wahdat-E-Muslimeen (MWM).

He informed the Chamber that a delegation had met with officials of the ministry last Thursday, and other talks took place recently with the engineer of the leader of the MWM, Raja Nasir Abbas.

“I am ready to visit Karachi for continuous negotiations,” he said, adding that the governments of Sindh and Balutchistan were fully aligned and that the governor of Sindh was in close contact with the demonstrators.

The Minister also shared that the Prime Minister had asked the Minister of Defense to ensure the facilitation of pilgrims via plane trips. “We have increased the number of flights and committed to foreign carriers, including Iranian and Iraqi airlines, to improve the capacity. Discussions are also underway to reduce prices,” he said.

During the session, Syed Qamar of PPP proposed clause amendments to Pakistan Land Port Authority Bill 2025, aimed at facilitating the good movement of goods and people through the country’s borders. These changes were completely discussed and finally approved by the National Assembly.

Qamar expressed that the PPP had reservations concerning several clauses in the bill and suggested a wide range of improvements to improve the efficiency of the authority.

He stressed that the goal of the bill was to promote trade facilitation and transform border passages into a welcome points, rather than intimidate the barriers that discourage cross -border traffic.

After approving the changes, Chaudhry moved the bill on behalf of the Minister of the Interior Mohin Naqvi. After detailed deliberations, the Chamber unanimously adopted the bill on the land port authority of Pakistan, 2025.
