Naqvi, Sadiq discuss the “attitude” of PTI

Islamabad:

The Minister of the Interior Mohin Naqvi and the President of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met in Islamabad on Sunday, with discussions on the attitude of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI) during recent negotiations with the government.

A declaration from the Interior Ministry said that the two leaders had deliberated on questions of mutual interest and the country’s overall political situation.

He added that “the attitude of the PTI, despite the positive progress made by the government for negotiations”, was also discussed.

Naqvi congratulated Sadiq’s efforts to promote dialogue between the opposition and the power coalition. “Ayaz Sadiq played a laudable role in the gathering of government and opposition parties,” said the Minister of the Interior.

The meeting also mentioned the country’s “improvement of the economic situation” and government initiatives to combat public complaints.

The talks between the government and the PTI initially started in December 2024 after more than a year of increasing tensions. However, despite weeks of discussion, negotiations failed on key disagreements – mainly the formation of two judicial commissions and the release of PTI prisoners.

The PTI boycotted the fourth cycle of talks this week, protesting against the government’s delay to train judicial commissions to investigate the events of May 9, 2023 and November 26, 2024.

While the power coalition has extended an invitation to PTI to join the process through a proposed parliamentary committee, the opposition rejected the offer.

The negotiation teams included members of various political parties. The management coalition was represented by politicians of the PML-N, PPP, MQM-P, PML-Z and Balochistan Awami party, while the opposition team included leaders of the PTI, the Majlis Wahdat-E-Muslimeen and the Sunni Ittehad Council.
