Professional pilot Katherine LEGGE did a lot to make her mark on motor racing sport.

She holds the fastest qualification time record for an Indianapolis 500 woman. She was the first woman to win an open wheel in North America. She was also the first woman to be inducted into the Walk of Fame of Long Beach Motorsports.

But the British pilot revealed in an episode of Podcast that she had received from “death threats” from fans after being involved in an accident during the Nascar Xfinity series in Rockingham last weekend. The incident also involved the veteran pilot Kasey Kahne.

“Let me be very clear, I am here to run and I am here to compete, and I will not tolerate any of these threats to my security or my dignity, whether on the right track or outside,” said Legge during the episode of “accelerator therapy”.

She added that “the inappropriate comments on the social networks that I received are not only disturbing, they are unacceptable”.

Legge became the first woman in seven years to start in a race of the Nascar Cup Series when she made the ground in Phoenix. The Xfinity series race was its second of the season. She was pushed into JJ Yeley’s car while she was checked out of the starting grid due to property points.

Kyle Larson put Nascar in opinion. Should the rules change on cutting drivers in the development series?

Legge left the pace of the race when William Sawalich went up to the back of his vehicle and sent it. Kahne had nowhere to go and ended up running it at the bottom of the track 1. Legge explained that she had been too hard, which made her run.

As for comments on social networks, LEGGE rejected the affirmations that it was a “rental dei” or nothing less than a simple “gadget” driver who has not really won her place.

“I won my headquarters on this race track,” said Legge. “I have worked as hard as all the other pilots, and I have been running for professionally for 20 years. I am 100% sure that … the teams that have used me – without my bringing sponsorship money for the majority of these 20 years – I can’t make a racing car.”

LEGGE finished in 36th in Rockingham. The best finish she had in the Xfinity series was 14th in Road America in Wisconsin in 2018.
