Five suspects were arrested after unknown gunmen opened fire at the home of national cricket team fast bowler Naseem Shah, police said on Sunday.

According to authorities, the incident took place at Shah’s residence in Mayar, Lower Dir, where the attackers targeted the main entrance, windows and a parked vehicle. Police quickly arrived on the scene, but the suspects managed to flee before being apprehended.

“Unknown assailants opened fire at the residence of national cricket team fast bowler Naseem Shah,” a police spokesperson said. “The firing damaged the main entrance, windows and a vehicle of the property. Police arrived at the scene and five suspects were arrested. Mayar Police Station has registered a case and further action is underway to arrest those involved.”

Authorities are working to determine the motive for the attack.

22-year-old Naseem Shah is one of Pakistan’s most promising fast bowlers. Born on February 15, 2003 in Mayar, Lower Dir, Shah rose through the ranks of domestic cricket before making his international debut. He made his Test debut in November 2019 against Australia and has since been a part of Pakistan’s ODI and T20 squads.

Early in his career, Shah became the second youngest bowler from Pakistan to take five wickets in a Test match, achieving the feat against Sri Lanka. Known for his speed and ability to swing the ball, he became a key member of Pakistan’s fast-paced attack at an early age.

Authorities said the investigation into the incident was ongoing. “Mayar police station has registered a case and further action is underway to arrest those involved,” police added.

This attack is a reminder of the security challenges faced by the country’s high-level sports figures. Law enforcement officials said the suspects were being questioned and police were working to determine a motive for the attack.

Shah remains active in domestic and domestic cricket, representing Pakistan in international matches. Officials assured that security measures were being reviewed to avoid similar incidents in the future.
