NBA COMPISH ADAM SILVER says he supports the idea of going to “ four 10 -minute quarters ”

A little more than half of the NBA season has passed, and the search for Commissioner Adam Silver to improve the League appears booming.

This week, Silver launched a change of drastic rule for the duration of the quarters during the NBA matches.

The NBA plays 12 minutes. If the NBA adopted a proposal for money, these periods would be reduced by two minutes. Ten -minute quarters would take eight minutes from the game period.

Silver noted that the reduction could create a more “coherent” presentation for basketball fans who watch matches on television.

“I am a fan of four four -minute districts,” said Silver “The Dan Patrick Show” when he asked him about more drastic ideas than the NBA considered.

“I’m not sure that many others are … put aside what it means for records and things like that. I think a two -hour format for a game is more consistent with television habits Modern.

At one point, Silver cited the length of the matches played in other leagues around the world.

“The NBA is the only (basketball) league that plays 48 minutes. … It’s such a dramatic change in the game. … Something like that should be more about it over time.”

During the summer Olympic Games, basketball matches last 40 minutes. In the United States, university basketball matches are divided into 20-minute halves.

“Because this game is so global, one of the things we would like to see over time is to create a set of more coherent rules around the world around the game,” said Silver.

Silver noted that the shaving of two minutes of reduction could reduce the wear of players during an 82 game season, while potentially helping the League to fight its “load management” problem.

“By the way, if you were going to a 40 -minute match – with the problems concerning the management and rest of the charge – it would be the equivalent of … Taking around 15 games of the season,” said Silver.

Silver clearly indicated that the ideas he mentioned during the exchange with Patrick had only been discussed, but they are far from adopted.

“It is not entirely at this level,” he said.

Silver also praised the major baseball league for adding a pitch clock. He argued that the change helped “accelerate the game”, while also keeping the traditional aspects of the game.

“I am a baseball fan, and I think that some of these changes have really increased the commitment … The entertainment value of the game, and so I pay a lot of attention to that,” said Silver.

“And, in fact, I used the pitch clock … during meetings at the NBA to say … we should not be afraid to look at the changes.”
