San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich’s longtime coach of San Antonio Spurs is not coming back this season.
Popovich addressed the team on Thursday for the first time since he had a blow to update players on his recovery and inform them that he does not come back this season, according to the NBA writer Chris Haynes.
Popovich, 76, had a “soft blow” in November and published a statement on his decision not to return on Thursday.

“I decided not to go back to the touchline this season. Mitch Johnson and its staff have done a wonderful job, and the resolution and the professionalism that the players have shown, remain together for a difficult season, was exceptional,” the statement said.
“I will continue to focus on my health in the hope of being able to return to training in the future.”
Popovich is the oldest head coach in the history of the NBA. He led to the age of 75 before being 76 during his time away from the team.

He was a five-time NBA champion, the NBA career chief with 1,401 victories and 170 career career victories and was inducted at the Naismith Memorial basketball renowned temple in 2023.
The Spurs are 24-33 this season and are 13th from the Western Conference.
Despite the acquisition of the star leader of’aron Fox on the deadline for trade, the hopes of the Spurs qualifiers are thin in a strong conference in the West.

The Spurs would have a much better chance of making the playoffs with the star center Victor Wembanyama, but the team recently excluded it for the rest of the season with a blood clot in its shoulder.
