“JA Morant’s decision to miss a firearm on social networks once again is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games,” said NBA commissioner Adam Silver, at the time of his second suspension.
“The potential for other young people to imitate JA’s conduct is particularly worrying. In these circumstances, we believe that a suspension of 25 games is appropriate and clearly shows that engaging in reckless and irresponsible behaviors with firearms will not be tolerated.
“For JA, basketball must take a rear seat for the moment. Before his return to the game, he will have to formulate and carry out a program with the League which directly approaches the circumstances which led him to repeat this destructive behavior.”
Morant commented at the time, saying that he realized “how much I caused injury”.
“I want to apologize to the NBA, Grizzlies, my teammates and the city of Memphis. For Adam Silver, Zach Kleiman and Robert Pera – who gave me the opportunity to be a professional athlete and supported me – I am sorry for the evil I have done. For the children who are looking for me, I’m sorry to make you fail. I’m going to catch up, I promise it. “
