Nepra reduces the power rate of RS1,78 per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in RS1.78 per unit of electric prices for consumers on a national scale, including Karachi, as part of the fuel cost adjustment mechanism (FCA) for July 2025.

According to a notification issued on Tuesday, the adjustment will be reflected in electricity bills for September, providing temporary relief to millions of consumers in an increase in inflation and energy costs. “The relief is based on the variation in fuel costs for July and will be reflected in electricity bills for September,” he said.

The regulator data has shown that the average cost of real national fuel for July was located at RS8.0903 per kilowatt hour (kWh), compared to a reference cost of RS9.8758 / kWh. This variance has led to a reduction in RS1,7856 / kWh, which will now be transmitted to consumers.

The price drop will apply to all categories of consumers served by K-Electric distribution companies (KE) and WAPDA, with the exception of Lifeline consumers, protected residential users, charging stations for electric vehicles and users of prepaid meters on fixed rate plans. “Consumers will see this relief in their September invoices, calculated according to their electricity consumption in July,” added the notification.

The NEPRA has asked all distribution companies to clearly detail the adjustment of the FCA on consumer bills. In cases where bills in September have already been issued, the repair will be reflected in the following billing cycle.

The FCA mechanism is part of the monthly NEPRA routine adjustment process designed to align electricity prices with the real costs of the fuel incurred during electricity production. “While implementing this FCA, KE and other distribution companies must comply with any relevant judicial order,” warned the regulator.
