After a decade, Netflix ends the management of first generation TV Fire streaming devices. From June 3, 2025, the first generation versions of the following models will no longer be compatible with Netflix:
- Fire TV (2014)
- Fire TV Stick (2014)
- Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2016)
The announcement, of which Netflix has sent an email to its customers, is not a huge surprise: Amazon has not updated them for some time now, and the first TV Fire devices do not support the most modern video and audio formats.

Why does Netflix stop the support of Fire TV models?
Netflix has not said specifically, but the most likely explanation is that the devices do not support the audio and video codecs that Netflix uses. Like PC World, whose title Sister PC -Welt has announced the news, “it could have something to do with Netflix using more recent standards – such as the AV1 codec – to broadcast with better image quality, in particular for customers who are premium.” The now arranged devices cannot be upgraded to support the new codecs.
