- A new report says that the AirPods Pro 3 will have two health sensors
- They may have both monitoring of heart rate and temperature
- But the expected live translation function may not be ready for launch
Appleās next launch has been announced for September 9, and we expect to see a new Airpod Pro 3 model there, as well as the iPhone 17 range and Apple Watch Series 11.
There was a surprising lack of leaks on the AirPods Pro 3 in the preparation of the event (apart from a small on the case, teasing a change of which I am not a fan), but a new report of 9TO5MAC can reveal some small interesting pieces.
First of all, it indicates that the AirPods Pro 3 will indeed have heart rate sensors, which has long been rumor, and which seemed more likely when this technology appeared on Beats’ PowerBeats Pro 2, since Apple also has Beats.
But the report also indicates that new headphones will include temperature sensors. This could be interesting because the ear is an ideal place to measure the temperature, and the temperature is a missing element in the Apple health monitoring system.
Apple Watch’s recent models, starting with Apple Watch Series 8, can detect the temperature, but only in a very limited way – they can follow it as a trend over time, as part of reproductive health monitoring for women, but they do not include an instant temperature reading to check if you run hot when you feel sick, for example.
This is because the wrist is not a great place to follow your temperature – but, as I mentioned above, the ear is quite good.
Something that we do not expect to see this time is the addition of long -term cameras to the AirPods Pro 3, even if they could be a great security victory if and when they arrive.
Translation not if
The report also claims that the live translation functionality of the rumors of the AirPods Pro 3 will not be available at launch and will be added via a software update to a later date.
It becomes more common for Apple, even with updates for iOS software from the iPhone. Apple now announces a range of updates during its major WWDC event, where it reveals all its major software changes, then these updates flow in a few months.
I think it’s a good thing, because it gives Apple time to polish things more, and live translation functionality must obviously work quite well, or it could cause annoying problems.
My biggest criticism with the rumor translation functionality is that it seems to be exclusive to the AirPods Pro 3, even if I have to assume that all the treatment would be carried out on your iPhone, so you would think that it could also work on AirPod Pro 2 and AirPods 4.
I may be surprised, and this will be the case – but I suspect that this functionality will remain the one that differentiates the AirPods Pro 3 from their predecessors, and to bring people like me, who are long -term AirPod Pro 2 users, to feel the FOMO and want to give money to Apple.
We will know it soon enough – Apple’s event will take place on Tuesday, September 9, from 10 a.m. PST / 1 p.m. HNE / 6 p.m. BST, which is at 3 a.m. in the morning on September 10.
