- Meta’s smart glasses with a screen again for launch in 2025
- They should land in October and cost more than $ 1,000 / £ 1,000 / $ 1,500 to
- Apple also works on smart glasses depending on rumors, but they are still launching time
According to new rumors, Meta’s smart glasses were finally faced with a rival made by Apple Intelligence, according to new rumors. The details add credibility to other rumors that we have heard before and that a great Battle of AR glasses lights us in the next decade – although this is a Meta fight has a big step of hitting right now.
The information occurs via the latest Poweron newsletter by Mark Gurman (behind a payment wall) where he details some initiates report on what the two companies apparently work.
Gurman’s comments support some details that we heard about Meta’s future glasses. They will be intelligent glasses like its existing rays of rays but will also have an display, they will be expensive (we are talking about $ 1,000 / £ 1,000 / $ 1,500 in), and META targets a version of October 2025 (that is to say when it generally publishes a new quest and equipment of smart glasses).
However, Meta may slide from this target date. Gurman adds that the “best team managers” would have told their staff to take the pace – and in some cases, employees may need to work during their next weekends to achieve Meta’s goals.
There is no word on the moment when the glasses could be released if they are missing their deadline in October – we hope they will fall on this side 2025 rather than 2026, although their release date will ideally arrive without any of the excessive Meta employees.
We also heard the first signs of a potential pressure from the first smart glasses of Apple – named N50.
On the basis of the way Gurman describes them (“an Apple intelligence device” which can “analyze the surrounding environment and fuel information to the wearer” but stops short of appropriate AR) resembles what Meta has and works in the space of smart glasses.
The problem? Apparently, a launch is still a while.
Gurman is not precise on the moment when a launch can follow, but with Meta, Snap and now Google and Samsung (via Android XR) being involved in the smart glasses space, it seems that Apple gives everyone one step ahead.
Analysis: Will Apple be late or on time?
Given its success with the Apple Watch and the AirPods from the point of view of portability and fashion (the two key areas Smart Glasses need to succeed), Apple has the potential to catch up.
But if his non -AR glasses launched in 2027, which could coincide with the moment when Meta launched complete AR specifications, according to disclosed development hours – which means that Apple’s rival may be dated the door. Again, Apple’s delayed version only matters if Meta, Android XR, Snap and others can capitalize on it.
These other AR glasses could be in the wild earlier, but if they are expensive and lack innovative applications, they will probably not be super popular. This could particularly be a problem for the next META XR specifications, because the intelligent Meta Ray-Ban-ban specifications are already excellent and are only improving thanks to software updates.
A display would be a significant improvement, of course, but it does not yet seem essential – especially if we consider that the specifications without display start at only $ 299 / £ 299 / $ 449 in and are already the best portable.
On the other hand, if the next Meta and Google XR glasses can even correspond to half of the cool uses that I have experienced on the Snap shows during my demo, they have the potential to take the perception of people of XR technology to new peaks. It would be an exciting perspective, and a high price would seem much more justifiable.
We will just have to wait and see what Meta, Apple and Google have in their sleeves, if and when their new generation XR glasses are finally released to the public.
