Paige Bueckers received national attention in the middle of her collegial career with Uconn Huskies when she deplored the lack of coverage that black women received in sports at the 2021 ESPY Awards.

Almost four years later, Bueckers remained convinced that black women do not receive enough media coverage and added that she thinks that whites benefit more from marketing opportunities.

“It’s still a number, every day,” Dallas Wings’ recruit told Time Magazine in an interview published on Monday. “There is never an equal cover.”

“There is a white privilege every day that I see,” she said in terms of marketing possibilities. “I have the impression of having worked extremely hard, blessed by God. But I think there are more opportunities for me. I have the impression that even marketing, people tend to favor whites, white men, white women. I think it should be equal opportunities. I have the impression that there is a privilege to what I have, and what all whites have.

Bueckers is expected to be among the next generation of basketball stars to lead WNBA in the future.

The comments of the recruit echoed that Caitlin Clark told Time magazine last year and what she reiterated to the actor David Letterman in her interview with him.

The lack of popularity of Uconn Star Paige Bueckers in the tournament has a racial component, suggests an ex-NBA

“I definitely have a privilege,” said Clark on “my next Netflix guest does not need an introduction”.

“I am obviously white but I think … I am someone who grew up as a big fan of this league. I grew up watching this league, going to matches, supporting this league. So, I know where this league comes from.

“Many black women who grew up doing this league what it is. It is sort of the shoulders on which we are sticking. So I think it was something that I am very aware of and something I am very grateful. And they certainly deserve all the credit and the more we can give them credit, the better.”

The star of Indiana Fever spoke of having a “privilege” in her interview with months after several of her colleagues in the league expressed their conviction that the race played a factor in its popularity.

“I mean that I have won everything, but as a white, there is a privilege,” Clark told Time. “Many of these league players who were really good were black players. This league was built on them.

“The more we can appreciate this, emphasize this, talk about it and continue to have brands and businesses in the players who have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to change this. The more we can raise black women, it will be a nice thing.”
