- Microsoft Now Working on Next-Gen Hardware, Confirms Xbox President Sarah Bond
- Bond says: “We have our next generation hardware in development” and has “looked at prototyping and design”
- Bond’s confirmation follows rumors that Microsoft canceled its hardware plans after making changes to Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox President Sarah Bond has confirmed that Microsoft is now working on the next-generation Xbox console.
Speaking to Variety about Microsoft’s new Asus ROG Xbox Ally handheld, Bond discussed the future of the Xbox, teasing plans for “next-generation hardware” that are currently in development.
“We’re 100 percent looking to create things for the future,” Bond said. “We have our next generation hardware in development. We’ve looked at prototyping, design. We’ve announced a partnership with AMD on that, so that’s happening.
“What we saw here was an opportunity to innovate in a new way and give gamers another choice, on top of our next-gen hardware. We’re always listening to what gamers and creators want. When there’s a demand for innovation, we’ll build it.”
Bond’s comments follow a series of rumors suggesting that Microsoft is no longer developing hardware after the company made massive changes to Xbox Game Pass and increased the price of its Ultimate subscription.
Shortly after, Microsoft denied rumors that it had canceled its plans for next-generation hardware, reaffirming its commitment to Xbox consoles in a statement.
“We are actively investing in our future consoles and first-party devices designed, developed and built by Xbox. For more details, the community can return to our announcement of agreement with AMD,” Microsoft said.
Although Microsoft has yet to officially announce the next-gen Xbox, other rumors claim that the console, along with the PS6, is aiming for a 2027 launch and will be more powerful than Sony’s hardware.
