The historic free fall of SheDer Sanders in the draft of the NFL last week was a shock for many, but not the old NFL star, Eddie George.

Sanders was thought of by most NFL recovery experts to be chosen in the first round, which is why so many fans and NFL analysts were surprised that he fell in the fifth round.

“I did not think it was a bit of a shock. I thought that the NFL had spoken, the project spoke and said:” Hey, we have no first round note on this child “and it’s okay,” said George during a recent appearance on “Don’t @ me with Dan Dakich d’Outkick”.

“I know that many people thought it was the first three choices and so on. It is a phenomenal talent, but when you make your reasonable diligence, and that you check these children, and you have the combine harvester, you have personal interviews, certain things that are consistent. And was consistent that he thought he was not a departure district.”

The Browns of Cleveland, despite the quarter of Oregon Dillon Gabriel with their choice of third round, selected Sanders with their choice of fifth round, the 144th choice in total in the draft of the NFL.

George said that the Sanders draft slide will turn into a “most beautiful hour”.

“I think it will be the most beautiful hour of SheDer. It now has an opportunity to go to compete for work and show people that, hey, you have missed a great opportunity. You know, I say to children all the time that it is not how you start in the NFL, how are you finished.

The Browns currently have five quarters on their list, but do not have a clear starting quarter. Deshaun Watson reassessed his Achilles tendon in January after undergoing surgery on this same tendon in October 2024, and his status for the coming season is in doubt.

The Browns acquired Kenny Pickett in a business with the Eagles of Philadelphia and signed Joe Flacco to a one -year contract before the draft of the NFL. With the additions of Gabriel and Sanders in an already excited quarter room, it remains to be seen who will get the head sign of week 1.

George led to Sanders last season with Tennessee State and said that the former Colorado star could “run”.

“I know the type of man he is, I know the fabric of which he is cut. I know that many people appear that he is arrogant and not serious, but I had the opportunity to train against this kid and that he can run it. He can put the balls of the ball that he knows with football. He has a very high football, and he must rely on this next level.”

George has had a nine -year career in the NFL as a ball carrier. He spent eight seasons with the titans of Tennessee and one with the Cowboys of Dallas. George won the offensive recruit of the year and was appointed four times to the Pro-Bowl team, when he was a first All-Pro team once.

He rushed to 10,441 yards and 68 affected in his career.

George was hired by Bowling Green in March after spending the last four seasons as a head coach of the state of Tennessee. He was appointed coach of the year of the Great Conference of the South Ohio Valley in 2024.
