The NFL suspended Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman for two games without pay after “repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players” following unnecessary profanity during Sunday’s win over the Dallas Cowboys.
Perryman was flagged for his hit on Cowboys receiver Ryan Flournoy, where he delivered “a heavy blow to the helmet” while the receiver was already on the ground.
The NFL added that Perryman violated the rule that prohibits “using any part of the helmet or facemask to strike or make forcible contact with the head or neck of an opponent.”

Perryman, 33, is no stranger to league discipline for illegal hits on the field. He had to sit out three games after being suspended in 2023 for unauthorized use of his helmet.
Perryman was also fined four times during his 11-year career, either for misusing his helmet or roughing up the passer.

The Chargers are aiming for a playoff spot in their remaining two games, where they will face the Houston Texans, who are in a similar situation, in Week 17. Next, the Chargers will face the Denver Broncos, who have already clinched a playoff spot, in Week 18.
Depending on how the Broncos and Chargers fare in Week 17, their regular season finale could be for the division title.

If the season were to end today, the Chargers would occupy the top AFC wild card spot at No. 5, but that would still mean heading into their first playoff game.
That’s what they did last season when they fell to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.
Perryman played in 10 games for the Chargers this season, accumulating 47 combined tackles and three passes defended. He has been a staple for the Chargers since being drafted by them in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Miami.
