Nine deaths reported as sudden floods hit Pakistan, PMD issues a high alert

Nine people died due to heavy monsoon rains, which caused sudden floods, landslides and urban floods across Pakistan.

Two children and a woman were killed in Kasur due to the electrocution, while other deaths were reported in lightning and floods, News reported.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a high alert for several regions, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Siackot, Gujranwala and certain parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The heavy rains should continue until July 11, with sudden floods provided for in nulls and local streams.

The heavy showers in progress have led to serious disruption in urban areas, with low parts of Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala. Traffic in these cities has been seriously affected, many roads blocked due to floods.

The situation is still complicated by the risk of landslides in mountainous areas, especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murrier and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In Balutchistan, thunderstorms continue to allocate regions like Zhob and Sibi, while the rivers of Azad Cashmere and Gilgit-Baltistan have inflated, triggering the flooding conditions.

Karachi, although largely not affected, has seen light to moderate precipitation in areas such as Gulshan-E-Hadeed and National Highway, causing minor disturbances.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid traveling in affected areas and remaining vigilant.

The rescue teams were mobilized to help people affected by the floods, and the public was advisable to stay inside as much as possible.

The government closely monitors the situation as the monsoon season persists, with other precipitation expected in the coming days.
