- Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (that’s a lot of editions) is now available
- This version promises 4K resolution up to 60 fps
- The upgrade is available on the Nintendo eShop, with a physical release planned for April.
In a bit of news that made me pinch myself just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, Nintendo actually shadowdropped the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
Horrible naming convention aside, the Switch 2 edition is now available for digital purchase on the Nintendo eShop. And as always, owners of the original Switch version can upgrade to the Switch 2 edition for a small fee. A physical version will also be available on April 16, 2026, and it appears that it will be entirely on the cart, as opposed to a Game-Key Card version.
Look on it
The Nintendo eShop listing for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has been updated with Switch 2 Edition features, and they are as follows:
- Supports enhanced resolutions up to 4K in TV mode
- Improved performance up to 60fps
So don’t expect radical additions, at least not beyond what Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition already added in addition to the base game. As we saw with Animal Crossing: New Horizons And The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Realm, this appears to be a very lightweight Switch 2 edition that improves performance and image quality.
And to be honest, the game needed it. I loved it Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition when I first played it last year, but the Switch hardware certainly struggled to keep the game running at a consistent 30fps at times, and the busy nature of its environments left the image quality very poor at times.
Now, however, I’m dying to return thanks to these upgrades. And I sincerely hope that Xenoblade Chronicles The trilogy will follow with its own Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades.
