- Nintendo confirmed that he was already preparing for Switch 2 Scalpers
- Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said he would take “all possible measures” to counter resellers
- Furukawa said last year that Nintendo would make more than 2 switching units compared to its predecessor
Nintendo has confirmed that measures will be put in place to prevent Switch 2 Scalpers from buying actions on the launch day.
The president of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, recently spoke to Japanese publication Nikkei (translated via VGC), and when it was asked how the company planned to ensure a smooth launch concerning stock shortages, he explained that The plans were already underway to counter potential resellers.
“We will take all possible measures depending on the experience we have accumulated to date (with regard to scalpers and others). We are preparing the preparations,” said Furukawa.
When the original switch was launched in March 2017, the stock was low and was aggravated by scalpers who continued to resell the device at an inflated rate. During an interview in July 2024, Furukawa confirmed that the company would make more than 2 switching units compared to its predecessor.
“As a counter-measure against resale, we believe that the most important thing is to produce a sufficient number to meet customer demand, and this idea has not changed since last year,” said Furukawa at the time.
“In addition to that, we will also take into account the circumstances of each region and make decisions within the limits authorized by law. We are currently examining if countermeasures can be taken in this area.”
After months of leaks and rumors, the Nintendo Switch 2 was officially revealed in January. There is not yet a release date, but we can expect the console to start in 2025.
A Nintendo Direct showcase is also scheduled for April 2, 2025, which will provide us with an in-depth release date of the hardware and the new software.
