Nintendo has confirmed that Tomodachi Life: living the dream will not support the new Nintendo Switch 2 resolution enhancement feature.
Last month, the Switch 2 received a huge hardware update that introduced Boost Handheld Mode, a highly requested feature by users that improves on the original Nintendo Switch software.
The update essentially runs the Switch game with its docked 1080p graphics preset, rather than the 720p one, giving players the option to play these games at higher resolution on the Switch 2.

Now, in an FAQ article, Nintendo has explained whether Tomodachi Life: living the dream is compatible with Handheld Mode Boost on Nintendo Switch 2, its first new game release since the feature was implemented.
“While playing Tomodachi Life: living the dream In handheld mode on Nintendo Switch 2, you can play at a higher resolution (1080p) than using handheld mode on Nintendo Switch, regardless of whether Boost handheld mode is on or off,” Nintendo said.
“For this reason, this game does not support Handheld Boost mode.”
The company explained that players can activate the mode while playing the game. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Welcome Version demo, available now, “but you won’t be able to use the touch screen.”
“We recommend playing the demo version with Handheld Mode Boost disabled, as you will still be able to play at a higher resolution and use the touchscreen,” Nintendo added. “After the next system update, Handheld Mode Boost will no longer be applied to the demo version.”
Tomodachi Life: living the dream will launch for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 16, 2026.
It doesn’t look like the game is getting a separate, enhanced version for Switch 2 or any particular improvements at the moment, but it is compatible with the latest console.
