- Nintendo finally confirmed the long -term mouse mode for the Nintendo 2 switch
- Each joy con 2 controller comes with an optical sensor which allows it to be used as a mouse
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond And Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Livestream has been and left, leaving us in a dizzying new material features, new games and new ways to play them.
The Livestream has confirmed that the Joy-Con 2 controllers from Nintendo Switch 2 will have mouse functionality, allowing users to drag the controller to the side to control the sliders and allow a more precise aim in games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
During Livestream, we saw the new mode of control demonstrated with new games such as Basketball in chair DRANT X And the extension Mario Party Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The two Joy-Con 2 controllers can be used in mouse mode at the same time.
It seems that each Joy-Con controller is equipped with an optical sensor on its flattest edge (the side that starts magnetically on the side of switch 2). The shoulder pimples are used as mouse buttons, creating a somewhat familiar mouse experience, although we cannot imagine that it will be ergonomically for long periods of gameplay.
Although the livestream has demonstrated the mouse function of Joy-Con 2 on flat surfaces, a press release shared by Nintendo with Business Wire confirms that sliding the joy-Con 2 controllers on a pair of pants will also work.
Nintendo Switch 2 mouse control games
As mentioned, Livestream has demonstrated a handful of games that use the new Joy Con 2 mouse function.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Use the Joy Con 2 mouse mode for a precise aim. Mario Party: Jamboree: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition use the mouse mode for control of the cursor in specific party games, and DRANT X Use the two joy con 2 controllers in mouse mode at the same time, to imitate by pushing the wheels of a wheelchair.
What about motion controls?
The addition of a mouse mode for Joy-Con 2 and Nintendo Switch 2 could represent a change of direction for Nintendo, echoing the accent on games with an older target audience and solo games.
It seems likely that the joy -cone 2 mouse mode is most often used on a flat surface like an office with these launchers and the first titles, while previous games on the Nintendo Original – as Arm And Switch 1-2 – focused more on movement controls.
There were relatively few mentions of movement control during direct direction – but the presentation for DRANT X suggests that Joy-Con 2 is still supporting it.
